Tritax Symmetry Kettering is designed and consented for three buildings, collectively offering nearly one million square feet of cutting-edge storage and distribution facilities.

The need for BasePower's services arose upon the completion of the initial building. Similar to its sister site in Rugby, challenges were encountered in securing adequate electrical capacity for the Kettering occupants and obtaining approval for the envisioned quantity of PV solar generation. This was paramount under Tritax's strategy to maximise renewable energy generation on site.

The BasePower solution

BasePower worked with its specialist subcontractors and the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) to bring forward enough capacity to allow occupancy, commissioning and full occupation to the original schedule. It was not initially clear that this would be possible, so BasePower also created a fully-specified and costed fallback 'island mode' design in parallel. Fortunately this was not needed as the desired capacity was brought on in time for occupation.

As the owner's engineer, BasePower took charge of overseeing the construction and commissioning of the majority of the power infrastructure. This was crucial in ensuring that the infrastructure not only met the specifications set by the landlord but was also aligned with the requirements of the occupiers.

BasePower also successfully achieved the secondary aim of enabling Full Settlement Metering on the site. This accomplishment, previously unattained with the DNO, was seamlessly integrated into the project's scope of work.
